Crisanta LS is an oral contraceptive also known as a "birth control pill" or "the Pill" which is taken to prevent pregnancy. The active ingredients present in Crisanta LS are Drospirenone and Ethinylestradiol.
Crisanta LS is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy and to treat moderate acne in women who are at least 14 years old and have started having menstrual periods, and who wish to use birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. It is also used to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), such as anxiety, depression, irritability, trouble concentrating, lack of energy, sleep or appetite changes, breast tenderness, joint or muscle pain, headache, and weight gain.
A patient should begin to take Crisanta LS on the first day (Day 1) of her menstrual period. During the first cycle of Crisanta LS use, the patient should be told to take one tablet daily, beginning on day 1 of her menstrual cycle (the first day of menstruation is day one). She should take one tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by 7 pill-free days. It is recommended that Crisanta LS be taken at the same time each day, preferably after the evening meal or at bedtime. If Crisanta LS is first taken later than the first day of the menstrual cycle, it should not be considered effective as a contraceptive until after the first 7 consecutive days of administration of the medicine.
The patient should begin her next and all subsequent 28-day regimens of Crisanta LS on the same day of the week that she began her first regimen, following the same schedule. She should begin taking her tablets on the next day after the 7 pill-free days, regardless of whether or not a menstrual period has occurred or is still in progress.
Crisanta LS are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to or to any other ingredient present in Crisanta LS.
Crisanta LS tablets are also contraindicated in the presence or risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), major surgery with prolonged immobilization, known hereditary or acquired predisposition for venous thromboembolism, presence or risk of arterial thromboembolism (ATE), Cerebrovascular disease, history of migraine with focal neurological symptoms, severe hypertension, Renal impairment, severe renal insufficiency or acute renal failure, Presence or history of liver tumours (benign or malignant) or liver disease, Breast cancer or other oestrogen- or progestin-sensitive cancer, Undiagnosed abnormal uterine and vaginal bleeding, Headaches with focal neurological symptoms, migraine headaches with or without aura, Adrenal insufficiency, Coronary artery disease, Thrombogenic valvular or thrombogenic rhythm diseases of the heart, Inherited or acquired hypercoagulopathies and Pregnancy.
The common Crisanta LS side effects include Irregular uterine bleeding, nausea, breast tenderness, headache and migraine.
Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction including hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: sudden numbness or weakness, confusion, pain behind the eyes, problems with vision, speech, or balance; chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling; a change in the pattern or severity of migraine headaches; stomach pain, loss of appetite, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); a breast lump; symptoms of depression (sleep problems, weakness, mood changes).
Less serious Crisanta LS side effects may include: breast pain, tenderness, or swelling; freckles or darkening of facial skin, increased hair growth, or loss of scalp hair; changes in weight or appetite, swelling of your hands or feet; problems with contact lenses; vaginal itching or discharge or changes in your menstrual periods.
This is not a complete list of Crisanta LS side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect. Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of Crisanta LS. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, or vaginal bleeding.
