Dicorate ER is generally prescribed to treat certain types of seizure disorders and certain psychiatric conditions such as mania and bipolar disorder. The active ingredient Divalproex is considered an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic type of medication that increases the amount of certain natural substances in the brain to help maintain mental balance. Some people may also use the tablets to prevent migraine headaches but cannot be used to relieve symptoms once they have started. Dicorate ER is usually taken orally 1 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken with a meal along with a glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the treatment. Continue to take Dicorate ER even if you experience side effects, as abruptly stopping the therapy without your doctor’s approval may cause a long lasting, severe and even possibly fatal seizure. Dicorate ER may cause unwanted side effects such as: nausea, drowsiness, vomiting, dizziness, changes in appetite or weight, diarrhea, hair loss. Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as: jaundice, worsening seizures, blurred vision, unusual bleeding or bruising, mental or mood changes, difficulty breathing or swallowing, oss of coordination. Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives. Dicorate ER is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using Dicorate ER if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems. The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. Dicorate ER is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
